What is agentic commerce in simple terms?

Agentic commerce is when an AI agent shops on behalf of a person, handling research, comparison, and sometimes checkout, instead of the person clicking through a store themselves.

How is agentic commerce different from regular online shopping?

Regular online shopping relies on a person browsing, comparing, and deciding. Agentic commerce shifts those steps to an AI agent, so the brand is now being evaluated by a machine reading its data, not just a human reading its homepage.

Which platforms already support agentic commerce?

Tools like ChatGPT's shopping features, Google's AI-powered shopping experiences, and retail platforms such as Salesforce's Agentforce Commerce already let AI agents search, compare, and in some cases complete purchases.

Is agentic commerce only for large retailers?

No. Any brand with an online store can be evaluated by a shopping agent. Smaller brands with clean product data and clear policies can actually be picked over bigger brands with messy or inconsistent information.

How can a brand prepare for agentic commerce?

Start with clean and complete product data, consistent pricing across channels, clear return and shipping policies, a fast website, and genuine reviews. These are the details AI agents check before recommending a brand.

Will agentic commerce replace human shoppers completely?

Not entirely. Many people will still browse for fun or high-involvement purchases. But for routine or well-defined purchases, agents are already taking over more of the decision-making, and that share is growing.
